Braehead Ice Centre is proud to take part in the Great Canadian Kilt Skate 2025, a celebration of Scottish heritage and Canada’s national sport – ice hockey!

On Saturday, 8th February, we’re inviting skaters to don their kilts and hit the ice for a unique public skating session at Braehead Ice Centre. As part of the celebration, anyone wearing a kilt will receive free entry and free skate hire during our public sessions on the day!

This event is inspired by the Scottish Society of Ottawa’s annual Great Canadian Kilt Skate, which sees 14 communities across Canada and the USA, including Toronto, Calgary, and Renfrew County, come together to celebrate their Scottish roots. Now, we’re bringing the tradition to Scotland, strengthening the historic ties between our two nations.

Following the Kilt Skate, the excitement continues as the Glasgow Clan take on the Fife Flyers in a thrilling Scottish Derby at Braehead Arena. The Clan will take to the ice in their Purple Tartan Jerseys, and the game will feature a special performance of Flower of Scotland by a traditional piper.

Whether you’re a seasoned skater or trying it for the first time, this is your chance to be part of a truly unique celebration of Scottish and Canadian culture. So grab your kilt and join us on the ice!

Date: Saturday, 8th February
Location: Braehead Ice Centre
Entry: Free for those wearing a kilt!
